Motorbikes Bigger Polluters Than Cars GreenEcoPeace Gives You The Facts

Methane Powered Two Wheelers (motorbikes & scooters) are 5.7 times worse than cars and 9.3 times worse than buses.

Carbon monoxide Powered Two Wheelers are 6 times worse than cars and 38 times worse than buses.

Sulphur dioxide Powered Two Wheelers are 19% worse than cars and 3.5 times worse than buses.

Non methane VOCs, Powered Two Wheelers are 10 times worse than cars and 27.6 times worse than buses.

Benzene Powered Two Wheelers are 10.8 times worse than cars and 821 times worse than buses.

3-butadiene Powered Two Wheelers are 11 times worse than cars and 14.4 times worse than buses.

Even for particulates, PM10, Powered Two Wheelers are 7.3 times worse than cars and 2.4 times worse than buses.

Powered Two Wheelers it is also claimed, are too dirty.

The motorbike industry claims an environmental advantage for Powered Two Wheelers because they use less fuel. This is totally misleading. Small Powered Two Wheelers with oil and petrol burning 2-stroke engines and large ones with un-catalysed 4-stroke engines are the dirtiest form of transport on the road. They rarely carry more than one person and this alone puts them at a disadvantage to other passenger vehicles.

Conservation Vessel The Steve Irwin Still Out There In The Antarctic Stopping Whaling

The Steve Irwin ship captained by Paul Watson is still in the Antarctic Southern Ocean Sanctuary for Whales, putting their lives at risk in dangerous Icy and perilous sea's, to save our whales.

As long as there is a conservation ship tailing the Japanese fleet there is less chance of whales being slaughtered by Japanese whaling ships.

Nights now are closing in, more snow storms are arriving and the cold Antarctic frozen sea's appearing. The Steve Irwin and her crew will continue through all this, to inconvenience the Japanese whaling ships, knowing that very soon, the end of March, the icy conditions will be so severe that the Japanese whaling fleet will cowardly have to retreat back to Japan.

People who shoot whales in the back are cowards. We thank the conservation ships who defend our whales in some of the most dangerous sea's in the world.

Shocking News More Whale & Dolphin Slaughtering On A Huge Scale

It has been announced that Norway intends to slaughter over 1000 whales. The Faroe Islands 3000 whales and Japan approximately 30,000 whales and dolphins. This is barbaric and disgusting and shameful in this day and age and it must be stopped. Norway is a member of the EU, so why doesn't the EU stop Norway killing whales? Europe is against killing whales.

Big Financial Problems For The Whale Slaughtering Institute Of Cetacean Research Japan

“Japan's research whaling now facing problems at home”

Japan's research whaling has long been criticized from around the world as commercial whaling in disguise. Now, research whaling faces a domestic blow--stagnant sales of whale meat.

A series of accidents involving whaling ships last year and disruptive protests from overseas activists have also hurt the finances of a government-affiliated foundation in charge of research whaling.

The problems have become so big that the Institute of Cetacean Research, an outside body of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, is struggling to pay back its interest-free loans to the government. The institute received a total of 3.6 billion yen in interest-free operational loans from another government affiliate, the Overseas Fishery Cooperation Foundation, in fiscal 2006.

The International Whaling Commission banned commercial whaling in 1986, but the whaling convention allows Japan to catch whales for scientific research.

According to the foundation's settlement of accounts for fiscal 2006, it failed to pay back about 1 billion yen of the loan package. The institute had planned to repay all of its debts by the end of July last year, but the government allowed it to repay the loans in instalments over four years from fiscal 2007.

The institute first received a public loan package of 1.2 billion yen in its fiscal 2001 accounting year when the quantity of whale catches increased. It supplied 2,450 tons of whale meat to the domestic market in fiscal 2000 and 2,620 tons the following year.

The amount supplied to the market gradually increased to a high of 5,560 tons in fiscal 2005, and the annual amount of loans correspondingly rose to
3.6 billion yen in fiscal 2005 and 2006.

Aiming to strengthen "ecological research," the institute increased the research whaling quota to 850 catches in the season covering 2005 and 2006, compared with 440 in the previous season.

The amount of whale meat supplied to the market jumped by 30 percent over the same period, and the institute, which does not aim to make a profit, cut the price of whale meat by 20 percent.

The lower price, however, reduced revenue from whale meat by 6 percent, institute officials said. Meanwhile, the cost of whaling rose by 10 percent because the institute increased the number of whaling vessels from five to six to meet the higher quota.

One institute official acknowledged that the 20-percent price cut was "too much" when operational expenses are taken into account. In the institute's settlement of accounts for fiscal 2006, it posted a loss of 700 million yen. It also did not provide reserve payments to the government that had previously amounted to tens of millions of yen annually.

Officials of the institute and the fisheries ministry said a fire and other accidents involving whaling vessels last fiscal year contributed largely to the loss. They said the institute should be able to balance its budget this fiscal year.

Escalating protests by activists against Japanese whaling vessels forced them to suspend operations in January.

While whaling resumed soon afterward, further protests by activists could suspend operations anew. If that happens, the supply of whale meat may be reduced, further hurting the institute's budget.

The Tokyo-based research whaling company Kyodo Senpaku was formed in 1987 by consolidating whaling departments of Japanese fisheries companies. Due to the global protest against whaling and waning profitability, three major fisheries companies withdrew from Kyodo Senpaku's operation in 2006.

The company became a publicly supported whaling monopoly, whose purpose is to maintain Japan's whaling tradition. Kyodo Senpaku is a for-profit company that collects, processes and sells wholesale whale specimens on behalf of the research institute.

In the year that ended in October 2007, Kyodo Senpaku recorded sales of 6 billion yen with a net profit of 5 million yen.

Most of the revenue came from commission fees on sales of whale meat to wholesale markets and charter fees of its whaling vessels paid by the institute.

One problem facing the company is its difficulty in recruiting young workers willing to stay long enough to learn whaling skills.

In addition, the long and distant voyages are a turn-off for young people,
company officials said.

Critics have questioned the government's policy of maintaining the country's whaling tradition at any cost when it faces a huge financial deficit and other problems.

Japanese Whale Slaughters Slay Mother & Baby Whale Australian Government Applaud

The Federal Government and conservation groups hope new images of the Japanese whaling mission will put further international pressure on the country to end its hunt.

Environment Minister Peter Garrett has expressed his sadness and disgust at an image of a Japanese whaling vessel caught slaughtering a minke whale and her baby.

The graphic images show the mother whale and her calf being winched aboard a Japanese vessel after being shot with explosive tipped harpoons, they died a lingering cruel death.

Scientists say the calf in the photograph was less than twelve months old.

Just hours after the whales were hauled onto the Japanese whaling vessel, the Yushin Maru, they were butchered and put into cold storage.

Peter Garrett the Environment Minister said, the images have bolstered the governments anti-whaling initiative. He also said, he felt sick when he saw the photographs of 'indiscriminate killing'. The photo's were taken by Australia's Oceanic Viking customs ship, which was sent to monitor the slaughtering of the whales in the Antarctic Southern Ocean Sanctuary for Whales.

It's just very sad when you look at these photo's taken as close as they are, said Mr Garrett.

It just reinforces our very strong view that we think killing of whales in the Southern Ocean in this way, is wrong and that we will continue our campaign against the killing of those whales.

Climate Campaigner Scottish Finance Minister John Swinney Leaves Car Engine Running

Climate change campaigner Scottish Finance Minister John Swinney, has been caught taking a chauffer driven limo on a 200 yard trip to avoid a walk in the rain.

The Scottish Governments climate change campaigner, even left his car engine running for 20 minutes, as he went into the BBC's Scottish Studio's.

John Swinney the Finance Minister, told everybody to leave their cars at home, but his advise didn't seem to apply to himself.

Leaving the car running for 20 minutes, would have burnt enough fuel to produce over 330grams of co2. To off set this, a tree would have to process carbon for approximately 16 days.

Leaving a car idling is a criminal offence and attracts a fine of £30.00

Only a few days ago John Swinney, launch his consultation on a climate change bill.

People are saying if he talks about climate change, he should set an example and walk himself.

Japanese Kill 5 Whales In The Antarctic Southern Ocean Sanctuary For Whales

It was sad news to hear today, as soon as the conservation ships the Esperanza and the Steve Irwin left the whaling area's to return to port to refuel, the Japanese whale killing ships moved in for the kill.

The Japanese whale killing ships are being photographed by the Australian Government's customs ship the Oceanic Viking, but unfortunately photo's don't save the lives of whales.

On the 15th January 2008 the Australian Federal Court made an order, ordering the Japanese whale killing fleet out of the Antarctic Southern Ocean Sanctuary for Whales.

As the custom ship is so close to the Japanese killer ships and in constant touch with the Australian Government, why doesn't it uphold the court ruling and order the Japanese fleet out.

Message to the Australian Government, What's happening, are you scared of the Japanese? If so why!
